100% of printed.com's Waste is now Recycled or Reused
LONDON, April 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Online printing store, printed.com (http://www.printed.com) has achieved total recycling or reusing of all its waste, with none of it going to landfill sites. The company, which provides business card printing services and other key online printing services, has followed an industry-leading environmental policy since its launch in 2011, when it was shortlisted for the Print Week Environmental Company of the Year award. The firm has a Forest Stewardship Council accreditation and has secured ISO 14001, a standard that addresses the balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact.
Responsible management of waste from printed.com's production site has always been a key focus, and the company was proud to have achieved 98% recycling, with only 2% going to landfill. As a further improvement for 2013, the remaining 2% of waste will be diverted from landfill to refuse-derived fuel (RDF). This is fuel which is produced by shredding and dehydrating solid waste with waste converter technology, so printed.com is now able to reuse all the waste generated by packaging and printing, as well as the paper used.
As a company, printed.com is continually seeking improvement and innovation in its environmental practices. Bernard O'Connor, Environmental Specialist for printed.com, commented: "In 2013 we will be addressing the amounts of waste we are generating at source, in the hope of introducing internal processes that will reduce the waste we are generating during the production process."
Not just intent with cutting back on waste during production, the firm has also turned its attention to the amount of energy it uses and has begun looking into other methods such as solar power and voltage optimization to help improve its 'green' credentials. To make sure it reaches its target, it has moved to an energy provider that specialises in generating electricity from biomass to help lower carbon dioxide emissions.
Nick Green, founder of printed.com, said: "As part of the print industry, it's important that we are aware of how our practices impact the environment, and to continue to find and implement procedures to reduce this wherever possible. I am very proud of our team's recent achievement and look forward to continuing to grow our efforts in this space."
A 'green' company at heart, printed.com is dedicated to providing its customers with the highest quality print, without hurting the planet.
