15th Century Home Of French Aristocracy To Be Sold At Auction Without Reserve
NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Concierge Auctions, a luxury property auction house favoured by celebrities and discerning vendors all over the world, is to sell Château de Blancafort, a heritage property situated in the Loire Valley on 19 October. The property, which has previously been listed for €4.95million, will sell without reserve to the highest bidder. The auction marks the company's third sale in France this year, further bolstering the property company's European presence.
Dating back to 1453, the chateau has been significantly embellished in the proceeding centuries, with Romanesque style turrets and a French Baroque façade added in the 17th century. Internally, Hungarian parquet floors, Regency woodwork and 17th century tapestries further complement the chateau's historic credentials. A collection of furniture and tapestries carefully curated by the owners is also available to be bought by separate negotiation. The estate is the home to a French count and countess, with the castle historically representing a favoured haunt of European royalty.
Covering 22,000 square feet of accommodation (2,100 sq.m.) the chateau includes an elegant library and extensive wine cellars, a convenient feature for a home just 30 minutes from the world-famous Sancerre vineyards. The property is currently run as a successful wedding venue, with the facilities in place to allow this to continue including a 2,700 square foot (250 sq.m.) reception hall. In addition to the main castle building, the 42 acres (17 hectares) of ground also contain a caretaker's house, tearoom, chateau shop and six-bedroom guest house. The gardens have been landscaped to the exact specification of historic plans dating from the Renaissance period and the surrounding parkland provides picturesque views.
The Loire Valley is home to some of France's most celebrated vineyards and idyllic scenery. Despite its rural charm, Paris can be reached in just 90 minutes.
William McIntosh, Project Sales Manager for Concierge Auctions, comments: "Despite its majestic dimensions, Château de Blancafort feels very homey. The castle has been meticulously cared for by the current owners and is ready to move into, which is rare for a property dating back over 600 years. With the chateau previously valued at a similar price as a luxury apartment in Mayfair or a small New York condo, I can see the auction attracting the attention of US or European buyers looking for a lifestyle change."
Charlie Smith, European advisor to Concierge Auctions, comments: "We are delighted to see such a significant chateau come on to the market in this iconic region of France, which has a worldwide following. Château de Blancafort is in the architectural vernacular of the classic French chateau, and offers the purchaser a home that is both grand and manageable. We expect to see interest from around the world."
