The Cake of the Year award was presented to The Bakery Dunbar, for their Dome Chocolat et au Praline Feuillete. Decided by the judging panel, this winner was taken from the leader in each category with judges voting on their ultimate favourite. Deemed to be the overall winner, this award was given to the cake that is truly exceptional.
Ross Baxter, Head Patissier and Bakery Manager at The Bakery Dunbar commented on the bakery's double win; "It's an honour to take home both the 'Bakery Shop Cake' and 'Cake of the Year' awards, and to get the seal of approval from such a prestigious judging panel. The win will help us reach new consumers and shout about how great our products are."
Taking place for the first time this year, The Cake Awards are the only awards dedicated to recognising excellence in cake and are a unique opportunity for organisations to showcase their best products to the most respected figures in the industry. Judges including Bruce Langlands, Director of Food at Harrods, Allan Jenkins, Editor of Observer Food Monthly and Eric Lanlard, Master Pâtissier put each product through a rigorous judging process to decide the shortlist and winners based on a strict criteria of excellent presentation, quality ingredients, recipe innovation, texture, taste and value.
Jane Milton, Co Founder of the Cake Awards said; "The calibre of entries into the 2013 Cake Awards has been exceptionally high, so our winners truly are the best of the best. I am delighted so many different companies took part in our first year, and I have already spoken to many more who are planning to enter in 2014. We have created a great platform to build on going forward, to help promote the best cakes and the talents of the people who create them."
