The innovation, effectiveness, and portability of the solution presented were again the crucial criteria for the expert bodies and star-studded jury for the 2017 DEKRA Awards. The global expert organization DEKRA has been hosting the DEKRA Awards together with WirtschaftsWoche, Germany's leading business magazine, for many years, honoring services to safety.
"There was an extraordinarily broad range of submissions this year," said Stefan Kölbl, CEO of DEKRA e.V. and DEKRA SE, at the award ceremony at Areal Böhler in Düsseldorf. "Every idea, innovation, or initiative that can make the world a safer place needs to be put on a stage. The DEKRA Awards offer such a stage. They raise awareness, inspire, stimulate, and embolden people to go new ways," said DEKRA's CEO Kölbl.
The jury declared the following Safety Champions for the 2017 DEKRA Awards:
"Safety on the Road" category
Different mobility cultures mean that moving in traffic can also entail danger - for immigrants and all other road users. The "German Road Safety App" from the German Road Safety Council explains these dangers. The multilingual smartphone app provides audiovisual information on safe mobility issues in Germany. As an animated guide, the app features four themed sections and several quiz elements to provide an overview of the most important rules of the road in Germany. http://www.germanroadsafety.de
"Safety at Work" category
"Stay on top!" is the name of the prize-winning campaign by Caverion Deutschland GmbH to prevent ladder accidents. In particular, it shines a light on the risk of accidents due to carelessness at low heights. This is where around 40% of all ladder accidents occur. The idea behind the campaign is that all workers receive a letter at home. This letter contained a personal note from a co-worker who had been the victim of an accident, a medical record with an x-ray, and a cardboard ladder showing the frequency of accidents in relation to height on the ladder. http://www.caverion.de
"Safety at Home" category
The Pflasterpass program introduces four- to eight-year olds to "First Aid for Kids". Pflasterpass gGmbH teaches impressionable minds about the dangers lurking at home, at school, and at play, and basic first aid skills appropriate to their age group. The topic can be reasonably be brought up with children from the age of four. Using the correct teaching methods, children learn how to treat themselves and others, in addition to basic first aid in order to respond carefully and safely in emergency situations. http://www.pflasterpass.de
