27 programme nominated - four prizes awarded
CIVIS celebrates a special anniversary in 2017 - 30 years of the CIVIS Media Prize.
Europe's most important media prize for integration and cultural diversity will once again honour programmes on radio, in films, on television and on the internet. A total of 783 programmes from 24 EU states and Switzerland are participating in the European competition in 2017. 27 programmes are nominated. The programmes that have been awarded the renowned CIVIS Media Prize will be announced on 1 June 2017 in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) has been nominated for four programmes - other nominees include France Télévisions, Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), Radiotelevisione Italiana, RTV Slovenia and Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF). More nominations were achieved by Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), Deutsche Welle, Hessischer Rundfunk (hr), Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR), Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF). Four prizes are already known: the Hamburg Media School has been awarded the "European Young CIVIS Media Prize", the special CIVIS prizes "Football + Integration" in the areas of radio, television and internet were won by WDR, SRF and the website provider CoupDoeil Productions.
The patrons of the CIVIS Media Prize 2017 are the Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.
The European CIVIS Media Prize will be awarded on 1 June 2017 at a celebratory TV gala in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Around 400 top-quality guests from the fields of media and politics will attend the prize ceremony. The event will be presented by Ingo Zamperoni (ARD/Das Erste Tagesthemen).
The CIVIS Media Prize for Integration and Cultural Diversity in Europe is awarded in several categories as a European radio and television prize. The radio prize honours German-language programmes in the EU and Switzerland. The CIVIS Online Media Prize is an additional award for journalistic web offers and web videos. The "Young CIVIS Media Prize" is awarded as a European advancement prize.
The "CIVIS Kinopreis" is an audience award for European films in German cinemas. Online audience voting will take place from 25 April until 2 May 2017.
The CIVIS Media Prize is awarded by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Landesrundfunkanstalten in Deutschland (ARD), represented by WDR, together with the Freudenberg Foundation. ORF, SRG SSR, RTV Slovenia, Deutsche Welle, Deutschlandradio, PHOENIX, ARTE, 3sat, Deutsche Produzenten Allianz, Verwertungsgesellschaft der Film- und Fernsehproduzenten (VFF), and the EBU are the media partners. The Integration Commissioner of the German Federal Government, the Fundamental Rights Agency of the EU (FRA) and the WDR mediagroup are cooperation partners. The CIVIS Media Prize is under the patronage of the European Parliament.
