400 Aspiring Doctors Attend New National Initiative
LONDON, October 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Leading education company The Medic Portal successfully launched a series of inspiring events for future doctors last week, addressing 400 students and parents. The 'TMP Aspire' events took place on October 22nd and 25th in London and Manchester respectively - the first two of six events to be held across the UK.
Tickets were priced at just £10 in order to reach a wide audience from a variety of different backgrounds - aligning the event with the government's recent commitment to provide 25% more places at UK medical schools.
Alongside Dr Ricardo Tavares and Dr Chris Nordstrom of The Medic Portal, London's Aspire event featured Dr Sarah Bennett (UCL), Mr Grant Smith (Dundee), Dr Natasha Robinson, Dr Harman Singh and Mr Ash Dawotal (Buckingham). In Manchester, The Medic Portal welcomed Liverpool FC's club doctor, Dr Andrew Massey, Dr Gordon Dent (Keele) and Dr Bethan Page to provide students with valuable insights into Medicine.
Attendees in both cities learned firsthand about all stages on the journey to becoming a doctor - from medical specialties to working on a hospital ward. The conferences featured talks on a range of topics, including personal statements, MMIs and clinical placements. Students left the day excited about the prospect of becoming a doctor, and inspired to get the necessary grades to get into medical school.
Event coordinator Richard Harper provided the following assessment of the day: 'At The Medic Portal, we aim to provide both the knowledge and the inspiration to allow more students to become doctors. We have realised both these aims today, combining fantastic speakers with our own knowledge and experience, gained from years of helping students into medical school. We received highly positive feedback from attendees leaving the event, and look forward to taking these events into other cities across the UK.'
More widening access into Medicine events will be held across the UK in the coming months - you can book your place at The Medic Portal's events in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Eton College here.
The Medic Portal is officially partnered with the Royal Society of Medicine. It is the UK's leading resource for aspiring medics. Engaging with over 250,000 students each year, it offers an abundance of free information, including free medical school interview questions, as well as bespoke services including Medical School Interview Courses, Medicine MMI Circuits and Medical School Interview Tutoring.
