Flames of War Must be Extinguished to Avoid Global Conflict, Warns Islamic Leader
National Peace Symposium at western Europe's biggest mosque: March 24
An urgent call to stem the tide of regional conflicts and to counter extremism by tackling the root causes will be made in London at western Europe's biggest mosque.
Ministers, MPs, diplomats, Mayors - including London Mayor Boris Johnson - religious and civic leaders will hear a stark warning about the path of self-destruction upon which the world seems set.
The world leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community His Holiness Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: "These days we find that widespread conflict and hatred has permeated all parts of the world and so there is an urgent need for mutual love, affection and mercy to be spread so that the world can be saved from the horrific and terrifying destruction that is fast approaching in the shape of a world war."
A multicultural and multifaith gathering of 500 will join the 9th National Symposium on International Peace, organised annually by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden, Surrey, which can hold 10,000 worshippers.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim community is one of the oldest Islamic communities in Britain and is at the vanguard of a peace-drive which seeks to expound the true peaceful message of Islam. The community holds blood donation drives, charity events, and numerous other interfaith meetings to dispel misconceptions about Islam and to promote service to humanity.
The National Peace Symposium will also see the International Peace Prize being awarded to SOS Children's Villages UK - a charity that has excelled in the field of service to humanity by working tirelessly to provide life-changing opportunities for tens of thousands of vulnerable children in some of the most difficult and challenging areas of the world. Its work in Chile, Zambia, Malawi Ivory Coast and indeed right the across the developing world has blazed a trail in enabling practical human development.
Among those attending the Peace Symposium are: Rt Hon Ed Davey MP - Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change; Andrew Stunnell MP, the Minister for Communities, members of the House of Lords, MPs and a number of diplomats.
