Actifio Named a "Visionary" in the 2013 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software
LONDON, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Actifio Recognised for Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision
Actifio™ has been positioned by Gartner on the 2013 "Magic Quadrant: Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software" [1] in the "Visionaries" quadrant.
Gartner states that "between 2012 and 2016, one-third of organisations will change backup vendors due to frustration over cost, complexity and/or capability"; and "by 2016, at least 20% of large enterprises will abandon traditional backup/recovery solutions and adopt those that employ only snapshot and replication techniques." Actifio believes that Copy Data Management, defined by Gartner as products that can "perform a host of functions, including backup, archiving, replication and creation of test data using a minimal number of copies,"[2] addresses user frustrations with traditional backup and recovery approaches.
Gartner also states "many organisations continue to re-architect their backup infrastructures and support procedures to modernise how to handle new data types and large workload volumes, to improve backup and restore times. Disk-based solutions, including backup to disk, server virtualisation backup features and deduplication, are among the key items."
Actifio pioneered Copy Data Storage (CDS) to manage copies of production data and eliminate redundant silos of IT infrastructure and data management applications (including backup, snapshot, business continuity, disaster recovery and test and development). Actifio can replace any or all of the silos with a single system that's purpose-built to manage copy data. By integrating data deduplication, network and processor optimisation, Actifio creates a single, perfect copy of production data and maintains changes to that master copy. Doing so delivers recovery times in minutes instead of hours, even for large-scale data sets. This gives users a simple application with a single user interface to recover anything, instantly.
"We are thrilled to be considered among the 'Visionaries' in our first Gartner Magic Quadrant, for the enterprise backup use case, common to nearly all of our customers," said Ash Ashutosh, Founder & CEO, Actifio. "Our focus remains on helping users realise the dramatic business value of that vision, not only for backup, but across a growing list of use cases enabled by a radically simple, information-centric approach to copy data management."
Supporting Quotes:
Jim Chilton, CIO Americas, Dassault Systèmes
"Actifio simplified something that should have been simple in the first-place. Copy Data Storage enabled us to consolidate 3 different data protection and availability applications, providing near-instantaneous backup, recovery and data access for testing/development. The fact that Gartner has named Actifio to their Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software, validates our decision to adopt a comprehensive copy data management strategy designed to accelerate our pace of innovation and ultimately save money."
Peter Moore, CEO, Logi-Tech
"Actifio is one of the best solutions I have seen in 30 years of IT. It allows customers to simply control the environment and not be at the whim of storage providers. From our users positive reaction, it's clear why Gartner has recognised Actifio with a "visionary" designation on the Magic Quadrant. Copy Data Storage solutions enable to instantly backup and recover data while also shrinking the enterprise storage footprint."
