Aethra® Telecommunications and Lantiq introduce the first Reverse Powered Fiber-to-the-Distribution-Point (FTTdP) solution at Broadband World Forum 2012
ANCONA, Italy and MUNICH and NEUBIBERG, Germany, October 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Scalable and easy-to-manage single user installation, helping carriers to provide superfast fiber broadband access to their customers.
Aethra® Telecommunications, a global leader in the telecommunications market and Lantiq, a leading supplier of broadband access and home networking technologies, today announced the first commercially available reverse powered Fiber to the Distribution Point (FTTdp) solution, which uses standard fiber and copper wire broadband technologies to deliver aggregated data rates up to 250 Mbps over up to 200m twisted-pair copper line lengths.
The new Aethra® Telecommunications HGV1+ Access System, which enables service providers to deploy CapEx efficient solutions today that achieve data rates exceeding the performance offered by Cable providers, will be introduced and demoed at Broadband World Forum (BBWF), October 16-18 in Amsterdam (Lantiq Booth C4).
Based on Lantiq's ultra-low power FALC™-ON GPON and VINAX™V3 VDSL2 chipsets, Aethra® Telecommunications HGV1+ Access System benefits from patent-pending reverse power feeding circuitry. The system sets a new performance benchmark for next generation copper access supporting triple play broadband services including multiple HD TV channels over IP.
Balanced Fiber and Copper Investment for Advanced Broadband Service
Aethra® Telecommunications HGV1+ Access System solves the problems related to the deployment of superfast fiber broadband, taking care of the key issues related to the FTTB and FTTH technologies:
- Vertical cabling - Unlike FTTH, fiber is cabled up to the basement, and broadband access is given to the customers using standard VDSL2 over the existing copper. This means superfast access, no construction works and guaranteed installation and deployment lead times for carriers.
- Power feeding - Unlike FTTB, every single line is independent and "reverse" powered from the enduser's homes using the copper cabling itself, thanks to the Aethra® Telecommunications innovative hardware design. This means carriers can handle every single new installation in a scalable way, not depending on electric utilities and still being compliant to standards and regulations.
Comments
Luca Messina, Innovation & Strategy Director of Aethra® Telecommunications: "Service providers need the widest possible range of options to satisfy end user demands while meeting operational business goals. FTTdP is the Holy Grail that solves some of major constraints that have up to now limited the widespread deployment of fiber, especially in Western Europe: costs for vertical cabling in existing buildings, uncertainty in installation times, powering. This collaboration with Lantiq is the beginning of a new product line that will help providers to offer ultrabroadband services to their entire customer base."
Martin Schenk, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Lantiq's Access Networks Business Unit : "Lantiq's broadband portfolio is ideally suited for FTTdp solutions enabling service providers to offer high-speed communication services to all of their subscribers. We are very pleased with our successful collaboration with Aethra to develop the first commercially available, fully reverse-powered FTTdp system that defines a new benchmark for copper-based broadband access services."
Availability
Aethra® Telecommunications HGV1+ Access System is now available for demos and will be ready for field trials starting from January 2013.
