Ambition of a Western Chinese District: Chengdu High-tech Zone to Build World First-Class Park with Trillions in Overall Industrial Output
CHENGDU, China, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On October 16, Chengdu High-tech Zone (CDHT) launched an ambitious project called "the 3rd entrepreneurship stage", aiming to build a World First-class Park with one trillion in overall industrial output.
A new and ambitious hi-tech zone in Chengdu, is striving to establish its own Silicon Valley. CDHT already ranks fourth among China's national hi-tech zones, with its comprehensive strength and the growing support of 7 strategic burgeoning industrial clusters, namely Next Generation of Internet, Electronics Core, High-end Software and Burgeoning Information Service, Bio-pharmaceuticals, Bio-medicine, Aeronautic Equipment and Advanced Environmental Protection.
The ambition of CDHT, to a certain degree, appears to highly resemble the nation's economic development plan and has been bolstered by breakthroughs in the technology domain. This has led to CDHT coming up with the "7 strategic burgeoning industrial clusters" strategy, aiming to achieve an industrial added value of 300 billion RMB and overall industrial output of 1000 billion RMB by 2020, upon which it would become a World First-class Park.
"Technological innovation and industrial upgrading are the core enablers in the deployment of the strategy," according to Liu Chao, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee; Party Secretary of CPC Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone.
To achieve this goal, CDHT has a 3-step plan, which divides the overall plan into 3 time frames, from 2015, to 2017 and till 2020.
Even under the background of sluggish global growth, the zone's industrial added value in the first half of this year grew by 19 percent to reach 48.82 billion RMB. Its total industrial output in 2012 was 223 billion RMB, making it the first industrial zone in all of Sichuan Province to pass the 200 billion RMB mark. It is home to the biggest tax-free zone in central and western China. The CDHT comprehensive bonded zone ranked 3rd nationwide and accounted for 44 percent of Sichuan's total trade, according to official statistics.
In addition, it has also attracted more than 120 Fortune Global 500 and other internationally well-known companies, including big names like Intel, Foxconn, Dell, etc.
