American Airlines Launches New AAdvantage® Credit Card Account From MBNA
CHESTER, England, November 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
- Two new credit cards help boost potential mileage accrual rates - plus 10,000 bonus mile offer
Teaming up with MBNA, American Airlines this week launches its new AAdvantage® Credit Card Account for customers in the UK.
The new American Airlines AAdvantage® Credit Card Account includes two contactless-enabled cards; one American Express-branded credit card and one Visa credit card. New customers will still have just one account and one credit limit; however, the AAdvantage® Credit Card Account expands customers' opportunities to build a greater number of AAdvantage® miles even faster.
Once accepted, new customers signing up to the new account will receive 10,000 bonus AAdvantage® miles as a special enrolment offer, as long as they make a card purchase of any amount within the first 90 days of opening the account.
For the first six months from the date the account is opened, customers will receive double AAdvantage® miles on every £1 spent when using either card for fuel purchases in UK petrol stations, purchases in any UK supermarket or directly with American Airlines.
For all other purchases, new customers can earn 1.5 AAdvantage® miles for every £1 spent with the AAdvantage® American Express® Credit Card from MBNA, or 1.5 AAdvantage® miles for every £2 spent with the AAdvantage® Visa Credit Card.
The new cards offer 0% on balance and money transfers for the first six months, as long as they are made within the first 90 days from the opening date (a 2% handling fee applies to both). In addition, the account offers 0% on all American Airlines flights made direct to the airline with either card for the first 12 months from the opening date, while customers will equally be eligible for a range of exclusive promotions throughout the year.
The cards have a representative rate of 17.9% APR (variable).
Maria Sebastian, Vice-President Sales & Marketing EMEA, American Airlines, commented: "American Airlines is delighted to be working with MBNA in the UK to further enhance our AAdvantage® programme. Members of the world's first frequent flyer programme can now earn their next trip on American even quicker than before with a generous 10,000 bonus mile offer and the added flexibility of two contactless-enabled credit cards. A new and competitive option, we believe this account will be welcomed by our members."
Matt Boss, Product and Marketing Executive for MBNA, said: "The innovative approach we have taken with this new credit card account allows customers to earn AAdvantage® miles when they spend almost anywhere in the world. Every time a customer spends on one of their AAdvantage® credit cards they are building up AAdvantage® miles. By giving them two credit cards, we are enabling them to do this more quickly.
"Together, MBNA and American Airlines are opening up the opportunities for new customers to maximise the value of the rewards on their credit cards and we are delighted to have teamed up with American Airlines to develop a product that provides real added value for customers."
