Eight chefs from Eden Hotel collection are sharpening their knives and getting ready to go head to head in an all-out culinary war to claim the title of victor for the Battle of Eden, with Bovey Castle's new Head Chef Andrew Storey making his first ever appearance.
What do you love about Bovey Castle?
The beautiful surroundings and the family feel within the team. Our new ownership and joining the Eden Hotel Collection is also a really exciting prospect
What do you love about food?
The level of enjoyment we can provide for our guests!
What are your passions in the kitchen?
Butchery has always been my favourite aspect of the job. I love breaking an animal down into its cuts, then using as much as possible to bring the most flavour into the dish. Nothing should go to waste!
I also love to see the development in my chefs, seeing them progress over time gives me a great deal of satisfaction.
How long have you been a Chef and where else have you worked in the past?
I've been cooking for 13 years now, starting with five years in a small family run seaside restaurant. I have worked for D&D restaurants in London and also at the award-winning Gidleigh Park
How long have you worked at Bovey Castle and how long have you been head chef?
I've worked at Bovey on and off for 8 years. Even though I have left at various times for new ventures, there is always something pulling me back to Bovey Castle. I love the hotel and the team are fantastic. I re-joined the team as head chef in August 2013.
In the past have you worked with any high-profile chefs?
I was sous chef here at Bovey under Darren Bunn, who held a Michelin star at two of his previous establishments. I have also worked for Michael Caines at Gidleigh Park. Although it was only a short stint in his kitchen I still feel like I learnt a great deal during my time there.
What are you looking forward to most in the upcoming battle of Eden?
The challenge of cooking in a completely alien kitchen with the added pressure of cooking a course for 120 guests. Should be fun! I'm also looking forward to getting to meet the other head chefs within the group.
What's your favourite dish to cook at Bovey Castle?
Right now, with the game season kicking off it's probably our grouse dish. It would definitely be the dish I would order if I were to come in to eat in the restaurant.
