Andrew Sukawaty Joins Warburg Pincus As Executive-in-Residence
- Over 30 years of TMT experience, current Executive Chairman of Inmarsat

LONDON, Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Warburg Pincus, a leading global private equity firm focused on growth investing, today announced the appointment of Andrew Sukawaty as an Executive-in-Residence ("EiR"). Mr. Sukawaty, who will be based in the firm's London office from January 2015, will support the firm in the identification and evaluation of new investments in the Telecommunications, Media and Technology sector in Europe and across the globe.
Andrew Sukawaty is currently Executive Chairman of Inmarsat having previously held the position of Chief Executive. He will become non-executive Chairman in January 2015. He was previously Chairman of Ziggo BV, the Dutch cable TV company, which was listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange until its sale to Liberty Global. He is also an independent non-executive director of Sky.
Since inception, Warburg Pincus has invested more than $15 billion in technology, media and tech-enabled services companies, including investments in globally leading communications services, software and technology-enabled services firms including BEA Systems, Easycash, Gordian Group, iParadigms, Fidelity National Information Services, Loyalty Management, Nuance Communications, Wall Street Systems, Veritas and Ziggo.

Andrew Sukawaty
Andrew Sukawaty joined Inmarsat, the leading Global Satellite operator, as Chairman in December 2003 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in March 2004. He has been Executive Chairman since 2012 and will evolve to Chairman in January.
Over his 30+ years' career, he has led companies in the mobile phone, Cable TV and satellite industries in the US and Europe. He was recently Chairman of Ziggo, the Amsterdam listed cable TV company, which was recently sold to Liberty Global. He is the former Chairman of Telenet (Belgium), the former Chairman of Xyratex (NASDAQ) and the former Deputy Chairman of O2 Plc. Between 1996 and 2000 he served as CEO and President of Sprint PCS in the US where he led the launch of the company. He has led four successful IPOs in the US and Europe and been involved in the creation and growth of successful companies in a diverse range of businesses in the TMT sector globally.
