The collaboration will demonstrate the outstanding strengths of OXIS Lithium Sulfur technology and calls on Anesco's expertise as a leader in the field of battery storage for commercial and residential renewable installations. The new battery storage units will be available for installation from 2016.
Developed in the UK, OXIS' Lithium Sulfur technology offers many advantages, including enhanced safety and reliability, improved environmental impact and ease of install as it is the lightest battery technology available.
Adrian Pike, Anesco CEO, said, "We're delighted to be working with OXIS. The team has developed this innovative technology right here in the UK and we believe it has fantastic potential. As a company, we are always focused on bringing the latest technologies and methods of best practice to our customers and continue to be first to introduce and model how such innovations can work."
He added: "Storing energy and alleviating the strain placed on the grid, particularly at peak times, is a critical part of creating an electricity network that will support the needs of customers - both homeowners and businesses - as we decarbonise the UK electricity network. The design of effective storage solutions supports the growth in new technologies, such as renewables, by providing the flexibility needed to be able to match generation to supply."
According to Huw Hampson-Jones, CEO of OXIS, "The development of effective energy storage solutions remains a key driver in achieving grid parity. As the OXIS technology becomes commercially available, it will contribute significantly to grid parity of renewable installations such as solar PV and is a major shift in how energy is produced and consumed, as it reduces CO2 emissions whilst reducing electricity bills at the same time."
He added: "Storage systems using lithium ion technology, such as the much publicised Tesla Powerwall, are limited by a technology that only achieves small incremental improvements each year. Such manufactures will want to improve performance, safety and cost of their products, so we expect that they will also switch to OXIS's technology in the next few years."
This project complements the increasing number of customers adopting the revolutionary Lithium Sulfur technology - including Electric Vehicles, Defence and Marine applications.
About OXIS Energy Ltd
Since it was founded in 2005, OXIS Energy Ltd. has been at the forefront of developing Lithium Sulfur battery technology. During the first phase the company invested heavily in design and development and is now ready to move into the production of Lithium Sulfur cells for a series of applications. With 21 families of patents, OXIS has been granted 64 patents with another 59 pending.
One of the most important breakthroughs achieved by OXIS relates to safety. One of the problems with Lithium ion is its volatility but OXIS now has demonstrable empirical data to demonstrate the safety of its battery technology.
