Anneka Rice warmed up for Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week Ladies Day today by rowing an ocean rowing boat with six time ocean rower, Simon Chalk, and budding Atlantic rower, Gemma Cambell, past the iconic Isle of Wight landmark, Osborne House. The same boat will be rowed 3,000 nautical miles, from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in December 2013, as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, the world's toughest rowing race.
"Rowing an ocean is one of the toughest personal challenges you can set yourself. More and more women are signing up each year and we are delighted that Anneka Rice has joined us to raise awareness of ocean rowing today. It's amazingly rewarding and I hope we inspire more ladies to sign up for the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2013." Simon Chalk, ocean rower
In December 2011, the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2011, saw 17 crews from round the world leave La Gomera in the Canary Islands on a 3000 mile ocean row to Barbados. Amongst those rowers was Julia Immonen, whose team Row for Freedom broke two world records. Julia will speak of the highs and lows of her crossing at The Talisker Boathouse at the Yacht Haven on Thursday 16th August to mark Ladies Day at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes week.
