Apical Receives The Sunday Times' Tech Track 100 Digital Innovation Award
Leading provider of imaging technologies recognized for its revolutionary imaging technology
LONDON, Dec. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Apical today announced it has been awarded the prestigious Sunday Times' Tech Track 100 Digital Innovation Award. The Award recognizes one company annually for achieving outstanding technological innovation. The Times recognized Apical for its microchip technology, which mimics the human eye in reacting to light conditions and is currently deployed in over 1 billion smartphones worldwide.
Apical also announced its inclusion in The Sunday Times' Tech Track 100 list of fastest-growing UK technology companies. Apical has been featured in the Tech Track 100 list for three consecutive years, as well as The Sunday Times' BT SME Export Track 100 list of leading UK exporters.
The Sunday Times' Tech Track is an annual ranking of Britain's private technology, media and telecoms companies with the fastest-growing sales. Over the last three years, the 100 companies featured on the list grew their sales by an average of 86 percent, to a total of £2.4 billion.
"We're honored to be recognized for our innovations and growth with this award," said Michael Tusch, CEO of Apical. "It's a testament to the unique and fast-growing team of talented scientists and engineers of many nationalities which we have assembled over the last ten years."
Apical's Assertive Display technology has become the industry standard for enabling smartphone screens to be viewed outdoors, regardless of the lighting conditions, while reducing battery use. Apical's Assertive Camera technology creates the video produced by nearly 80 percent of the world's security IP cameras. Both the Assertive Display and Assertive Camera technologies draw on Apical's unique research modelling human vision and way the eye adapts to different lighting environments.
The company has extended this core research into visual intelligence within the smart home market and has recently introduced Apical's Residential Technology (ART), a platform for the connected home. ART interprets human behavior in real time at the edge (inside a device) without recording video. Since no video is captured or sent to the cloud, ART analyzes human behavior without significant bandwidth or cost.
