Aquent Gymnasium Launches New MOOC on Responsive Web Design
-- Second Installment of Aquent's MOOC Platform to Teach Web Design Skills to Creative Professionals
BOSTON, Oct. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Aquent, the leading global staffing organization dedicated to marketing, creative, and digital talent, today announced the launch of a second course developed by Aquent Gymnasium, a revolutionary MOOC (massive open online course) initiative aimed at closing the skills gap faced by creative organizations worldwide. Over 10,000 students have thus far enrolled in Aquent Gymnasium's first offering, "Coding for Designers."
Beginning today, front-end web developers can enroll in Aquent Gymnasium's latest free online course, "Responsive Web Design." The course will teach participants best practices for building response websites that adapt to different devices and user behaviors. Essential elements of responsive web design included in the course's 12 lessons are: designing with flexible grids; deploying fluid media with responsive images; using CSS media queries; responsive web typography; the mobile-first approach; in-browser design, tools and resources; and responsive web design workflows. By the end of the course, participants will have built a sample responsive website from scratch.
"Responsive web design is an explosive new area of interest in the creative sphere," said Andrew Miller, Program Director of Aquent Gymnasium. "This course will provide front-end developers the advanced, competitive skills they need to stay current within the ever-changing landscape."
The course is led by Jeremy Osborn, a leader in the creative technology industry with more than 20 years experience as a designer, educator, and writer. From building websites for Boston-area startups, to developing the Graphic and Web Design certificate program at Boston University's Center for Digital Imaging Arts, Jeremy brings the full spectrum of professional experience to his role as both a course instructor and Academic Director for Aquent Gymnasium.
"My career has been dedicated to practicing design and educating creative professionals on the latest developments in our industry," said Jeremy Osborn. "Aquent Gymnasium's responsive web design course will enable students to go back into the workforce with tangible skills in a specialty that is rapidly becoming ingrained in their everyday creative work."
