Audi Locks Out Front Grid Row at Hankook 24H Dubai
DUBAI, UAE, January 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Competitors fought for the best grid spots of the Hankook 24H Dubai at the qualifying on Thursday. A total of 100 cars hunted the fastest times in nine different classes. Hankook's Ventus Premium racing tyres ensured high grip and stability.
Two Audis start the Hankook 24H Dubai from the first grid row on Friday at 14.00 hours. German Christer Jöns (C. ABT) turned the fastest qualifying lap with his Audi R8 LMS in 1:57.892 minutes. His compatriot and brand colleague Christopher Mies (Land Motorsport) was just over three-tenths of a second slower and starts from second. Dutchman Nicky Pastorelli (Chevrolet Corvette / Team V8 Racing) qualified third.
The new Mercedes AMG GT3 celebrated its debut on an international stage, posting fifth place for Abu Dhabi Team Black Falcon.
Manfred Sandbichler, Hankook's Motorsport Director Europe: "It'll be an exciting race on Friday. Unlike last year, the lap times are significantly better. All have praised the Hankook racing tyres."
Christer Jöns (Audi R8 LMS), C.ABT Racing: "The Hankook tyre quickly reaches its peak. It also remains consistently fast, that's important for the race to push without the tyre deteriorating."
Daniel Abt (Audi R8 LMS), C.ABT Racing: "The Hankook tyre lasts long. I was amazed how little it degraded. I think it'll be an exciting race."
Bernd Schneider (Mercedes AMG GT3), Black Falcon: "The Hankook racing tyres are constant. You can turn fast laps at a high level with them. That's important here in Dubai."
