The Avianca Sala VIP at Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport faced tough competition from 74 other Priority Pass partner lounges in the region. However, the brand new complex at Bonilla Aragon did not fail to impress the Priority Pass members. The lounge accommodates up to 178 executives that can fly to destinations in New York, Lima, Madrid and London.
The world's eyes will be on South America this summer as the FIFA football World Cup takes place in Brazil. The region is set to experience a greater number of visitors over the next few years as a result of the tournament, and as the breath-taking landscapes and city breaks become more widely known.
Gilma Usuga, communication director for Avianca Sala VIP Lounge, said: "Our team has worked very hard to increase the service, the quality of staff and the experience of guests, so this award is gratefully received. We offer a wide variety of food and provide comfortable spaces for guests to enjoy the local cuisine. Our visitors also take advantage of our coffee station where they can choose between seven different types of coffee."
Stephen Simpson, Global Marketing Director for Priority Pass, said: "As airports become busier, we believe the lounge is a key moment of truth for a new global class of discerning consumers. This group is looking for smart ways to upgrade their lifestyles, for example using lounge access as a means to travel in style and comfort, without going to the expense of business class flights. Brands wishing to reach this increasingly savvy group should ensure lounge access sits front and centre of any customer incentive program."
"We congratulate Avianca Sala VIP Lounge on its achievement. Over the past 10 years, Priority Pass's Lounge of the Year Awards have given the most comprehensive overview of the quality of the world's airport lounges based on members' own opinions. In order to win, lounges must demonstrate the strongest commitment to excellence, day in, day out."
Priority Pass received over 84,000 votes from members in this year's poll, an increase of 44 percent compared with last year. Members vote on a set of criteria covering overall lounge quality, including refreshments, staff, business facilities and overall ambience.
Recognition for Antigua
The Big Banana (club 1761) Executive Lounge in Antigua was highly commended for its services in the region this year. Visitors to this luxurious lounge can enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and unwind and relax. An exclusive selection of the regions fine wines and spirits is also available for guests to try, complimenting the local cultural experiences that travellers enjoy.
The overall global award went to the Club Kingston at Kingston Norman Manley International Airport in Jamaica.
