Ballast Nedam is Participating in Restarting Ursem Modular Building Systems
NIEUWEGEIN, Netherlands, February 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Ballast Nedam has reached agreement concerning the joint continuation of the production of the modular building systems of the Ursem Construction Group. The local firms Schouten Techniek and the Ursem family are involved in this 'restart'. Ballast Nedam Bouw & Ontwikkeling will complete the approximately ten projects that are pending.
With the development of a production method for modular building systems, the family firm Ursem Construction Group has achieved a leading position in this market. The buildings are constructed of modules created using sustainable manufacturing methods and, depending on the changing wishes of the client; these can be wholly or partially dismantled and re-used. The know-how and experience obtained in collaboration with the strategic installation partner will, therefore, not be lost.
CEO of Ballast Nedam, Theo Bruijninckx, envisages strategic advantages in the collaboration: "Innovative and more industrial methods of construction, under conditioned circumstances, is a response to the market demand. This collaboration is closely aligned to the existing products Modupark® and iQwoning®. Ballast Nedam is thus in a position to provide modular concepts for the various markets for housing and commercial and industrial building, new building and renovation."
This means that the jobs of 15 - 20 employees of the factory in Wognum are safe. Furthermore, as soon as production can be recommenced, there is the prospect once again of growth, also of employment opportunities.
Ballast Nedam has a leading position in construction and infrastructure. The company operates mainly in the Netherlands on integrated and other projects for companies, public authorities and housing consumers, in the fields of mobility, housing, employment, leisure and energy. Ballast Nedam operates internationally in various areas of expertise. Ballast Nedam supplies project, process and contract management in the development, implementation and management phases. The company also provides specialized know-how and skills, and semi-finished and finished products. Ballast Nedam is listed on NYSE Euronext in Amsterdam. The share is included in the Amsterdam Small Cap Index.
