Ballast Nedam to Adjust Production Capacity at Prefab Concrete Factory
NIEUWEGEIN, The Netherlands, September 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Ballast Nedam is to adjust the production capacity at the Waco Lingen Beton prefab concrete factory in Bergen op Zoom in line with the continuing adverse market conditions. Waco Lingen Beton focuses solely on products for the culvert and land, road and hydraulic construction segment. Previously, Waco Lingen Beton also concentrated on the residential and non-residential building sectors. The adjustment will mean the loss of 100 jobs. The Central Works Council has already made its recommendations. The Ballast Nedam social plan will come into operation and a mobility centre has been devised to help employees move from job to job.
Theo Bruijninckx, Chair of the Executive Board of Ballast Nedam, on the adjustment: "We realize that this will have far-reaching implications for the people involved and it was not an easy decision. However, the current situation in the residential and non-residential building sectors has now forced our hand."
Ballast Nedam has three other companies operating in the prefab concrete industry; Haitsma Beton in Kootstertille, Hoco Beton in Weert and Omnia Plaatvloer in Coevorden.
Ballast Nedam has a leading position in construction and infrastructure. The company operates mainly in the Netherlands on integrated and other projects for companies, public authorities and housing consumers, in the fields of mobility, housing, employment, leisure and energy. Ballast Nedam operates internationally in various areas of expertise. Ballast Nedam supplies project, process and contract management in the development, implementation and management phases. The company also provides specialized know-how and skills, and semi-finished and finished products. Ballast Nedam is listed on NYSE Euronext in Amsterdam.
