Ballast Nedam Wishes to Sell its Participation in Beheersmaatschappij Bontrup
NIEUWEGEIN, The Netherlands, May 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Ballast Nedam no longer views its position as shareholder in Beheersmaatschappij Bontrup B.V. ("Beheersmaatschappij Bontrup") as being in line with its strategy; as a result it now wishes to sell its shares.
In 2001, Ballast Nedam acquired a 30% stake in Beheersmaatschappij Bontrup. Since then, the partner companies have established a successful operation, which has developed into a full-service producer and distributor of high-quality stone.
Beheersmaatschappij Bontrup is majority owner of Bremanger Quarry (a sandstone quarry in Norway). It also operates two terminals, one in Amsterdam (Graniet Import Benelux) and the other in Antwerp (Antwerp Stone Terminal), to serve the Benelux market on an exclusive basis with granite from Glensanda Quarry in Scotland and Bestone® from Bremanger Quarry in Norway. Furthermore, Beheersmaatschappij Bontrup jointly owns two self-unloading bulk carriers for transportation from Norway and Scotland.
The sandstone quarry in Bremanger operates a concession with an extensive lifetime. The excavated aggregate is of exceptional quality and highly suitable as a top layer for asphalt roads and as rail track ballast. Additionally, the sandstone is used in major and minor (offshore) projects, such as Maasvlakte 2.
A sales process has now been put into motion, during which a select group of candidates will be contacted.
Ballast Nedam engages in integrated projects in The Netherlands in four areas of work: housing, mobility, energy and nature. Within this area we focus on the niche markets: industrial construction, offshore wind turbines, secondary raw materials and alternative fuels. In a number of areas of expertise, we also operate internationally. The Ballast Nedam share is included in the Amsterdam Small Cap Index (AScX) of NYSE Euronext.
Ballast Nedam's approach is based on life cycle thinking and acting: we develop, construct, manage and recycle. We are involved in long-term management, maintenance and operation of projects and organize financial feasibility. Our supply and specialized companies deliver competitive edge through innovation, cost leadership and purchasing strength. Ballast Nedam's range of services is shifting towards modular products and specific product-market combinations with greater added value.
Ballast Nedam creates enduring quality combined with lower life cycle costs for its customers and society. http://www.ballast-nedam.com
