Bright Future for Balearic Real Estate Markets Predicted
PALMA DE MALLORCA, Majorca, February 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
- 2013 promises to be a year of positives for investors of Spanish real estate
Spain is once again establishing itself as an attractive market for investors, and, according to Kai Dost, manager of real estate agency Dost & Co. (http://www.dost-co.co.uk/ ), this is especially true for those looking at real estate. "The country is getting over its darkest days and is facing a bright future," states Dost, who can look back on over 20 years of experience in the real estate markets of both Ibiza and Mallorca. This positive outlook is supported by experts of US-Bank Morgan Stanley who are sure that Spain and Switzerland are the most attractive European countries for potential investors. According to Morgan-Stanley, Spain promises to be a year of positive surprises.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has had to turn to extreme means to fight against the economic crisis that has recently threatened the country where a drop in tax revenue, high unemployment and increasing national debt were causing serious problems. To counter this, Rajoy decided that the whole country needed to stop spending so much money. "They introduced many unpopular sanctions, and in doing so became the target for criticism and mistrust," says Dost. However, with evidence that the measures have worked out well, the country seems to be back on track: "Spain is creditworthy again and all fears of a possible return of the Peseta are erased."
The real estate markets of Mallorca and Ibiza in particular are benefiting from this new found stability.
A few months ago things looked much worse: The country was suffering its starkest financial crisis in its history and was devaluated by rating agencies. As such, the Spanish real estate market was extremely volatile, especially on the mainland. "The real estate market on the Balearic Islands reacts less impetuously on the fluctuation in the national market," Dost explains. "Especially high-class real estate and second domiciles remained comparatively stable." However, the experienced real estate agent is rather optimistic for the markets of Mallorca and Ibiza. "Spain will do anything to avoid a new unhealthy bubble," says Dost.
