Brit Kids Bedtime Classics - The Nation's Favourite Bedtime Stories
LONDON, June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Making up bedtime stories for their kids is Britain's favourite way of helping the little ones settle down to sleep, with almost a third of British mums and dads (28%) making up bedtime stories at bedtime, a recent survey conducted by childrens bedroom furniture company Feather & Black reported.
Whether it was making up a story, reading a classic like Snow White or a modern tale such as The Gruffalo and Where The Wild Things Are, UK kids are relishing downtime at bedtime with their family.
UK kids favourite bedtime stories included:
- Made up story by mum and dad (28% polled)
- Modern story (24%)
- Fables/Folk tales (21%)
- Learning/Education books (13%) and Classics (13%)
- Poetry (1%)
A massive 32% of 35-54 year olds said modern bedtime stories were their favourite for reading to kids, compared to only 18% of 18-34 year olds. The same 18-34 year olds claimed making up a bedtime story to be their most popular bedtime pastime (30%), compared to only 22% of 35-54 years. Interestingly, telling folk tales or fables was the favourite bedtime tale of 55+'s with 26% of them reading the moral led stories the most to the little mites (26%).
Adam Black, MD of Feather & Black says: "It's great to see from the poll what Brits are reading at bedtime to the kids. As a children's bedroom specialist and children's author myself, I was thrilled to hear that reading is part of their bedtime routine. We hope the next time mum and dad are reading a story our signature bedroom collections such as our childrens beds are providing added comfort. The kid's cabin beds create extra storage for reading books and saves tip toeing across the bedroom too!"
Feather & Black is a leading bedroom furniture retailer with 35 stores nationwide, offering a wide selection of exclusively designed products including coordinating bedroom ranges, metal and wooden beds and mattresses, as well as children's beds, bed linens and accessories for both adults and children.
