PMP 450 wireless broadband provides affordable, reliable connectivity for smart cities, rural connectivity, and Industrial IoT applications
ROLLING MEADOWS, Illinois, Sept. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambium Networks, a leading global provider of wireless networking solutions, today announced a manufacturing milestone in shipping the 1 millionth PMP 450 wireless broadband module. Launched in September 2012, the PMP 450 system has continuously evolved to provide industry-leading throughput performance, spectral efficiency, and capacity, thus enabling network operators to profitably extend their networks geographically and in user density while meeting the ever-growing demand for data capacity.
Utilized in a variety of applications, from residential and enterprise access, CCTV backhaul and networking oilfields to electric grids and railroads, on five continents, the PMP 450 has connected the unconnected – people, places and things. Initially deployed in 5.8GHz, the PMP 450 platform is now available in 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 3 GHz, 4.9 GHz, 5.1 GHz, 5.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz – providing maximum flexibility and agility in spectrum utilization. Data rate capacity has kept pace with market demands over time as well – most recently demonstrating 1.2 Gbps on the PMP 450m.
"The PMP 450m, launched in October 2016, is the most advanced PMP 450 platform and utilizes multiple leading-edge technologies to deliver the highest amount of throughput in the least amount of scarce RF spectrum," said Atul Bhatnagar, President and CEO of Cambium Networks. "The system combines a 14x14 Massive Multiuser MIMO transceiver system with an advanced beamforming antenna array, aligning with industry transition to 5G technologies, to deliver more than 400 Mbps of throughput in a 20 MHz channel. With the PMP 450m, network operators around the world are now able to expand their coverage and capacity to meet the demand for streaming video and data transfer."
The latest PMP 450m with cnMedusa™ technology has proven to deliver high-throughput connectivity. "After the initial installation, we expected to service about 111 customers with a total demand approaching 50 Mbps downloads in a single 90o sector," said Rob Reif, Production Manager, Pixius Communications. "We peaked at 113 SMs on this AP but are presently loaded at 109 customers. Currently, we've serviced downloads up to 118 Mbps during peak customer usage. I would expect these customers to be more than satisfied with their currently uncapped internet service from the PMP 450m Access Point."
"The PMP 450m Access Point was loaded with 126 small business and residential subscribers, each with a 25 Mbps Service Level Agreement," said Tad Vernor, ISP Manager at Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC). "The PMP 450m was able to deliver 138 Mbps in a 20 MHz channel consistently without breaking a sweat."
"The PMP 450m is delivering 5G-like connectivity now," said Scott Imhoff, Senior Vice President of Product Management for Cambium Networks. "Cambium is continuing to invest in the PMP 450 platform and will be adding new capabilities as market needs and standards dictate – such as a new higher-performing wide band Subscriber Module (SM) that supports 4.9 to 5.925 GHz. The best news for network operators is that the evolving Access Point (AP) platform is fully compatible with installed subscriber modules in the network, so new higher-capacity capabilities are added by changing out only the AP, without requiring the cost and time of upgrading SMs deployed at customer locations."
Detailed case studies of the Pixius Communications and GVEC deployments are available on the Cambium Networks web site.
