Castellum Strengthens Leading Position Within Sustainability
GÖTEBORG, Sweden, Sept. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --Sustainability efforts at Castellum, one of the largest Swedish real estate companies listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, continue to be internationally recognized.
- Retains position as the only Nordic real estate company in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).
- Ranks as the most sustainable real estate developer in the world, as well as being designated Global Sector Leader for the second consecutive year, by GRESB.
- Achieves EPRA Gold, for highest rating among the best sustainability reports in Europe.
"Once again, this highlights Castellum's leading position in sustainability", says Filip Elland, the company's Sustainability Manager. "The awards prove the effectiveness of our systematic and high quality sustainability actions – and that we bring transparency and open communication in everything we do."
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) invites more than 3,900 listed companies in all industries around the world to participate in the survey each year. Those performing at the top of their game qualify for this prestigious index, which was founded in 1999 with an aim to steer investors toward more sustainable investments. Castellum is the only Nordic real estate company, and one of seven Swedish companies to qualify for the index.
GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) annually carries out a thorough global appraisal of sustainability activities in major real-estate corporations and funds. In this year's survey, 823 real estate companies participated across the world. This year, Castellum is ranked Number One – as the most sustainable real estate developer in the world. And for the second consecutive year, Castellum has also received the Global Sector Leader Award, which means that Castellum is ranked as number one in the world, within the office- and industrial properties sector.
The prize for Best Sustainability Reporting in Europe, EPRA Gold, stands as recognition that Castellum delivers on our sustainability promises, as well as maintaining clear and accurate communication. EPRA (European Public Real Estate Association) aims at improving standards and transparency in the real estate industry to increase credibility, thereby increasing investor safety.
"I'm incredibly pleased for this international recognition and the efforts and serious commitment carried through by our employees", says Henrik Saxborn, Castellum CEO. "A focus on sustainability enhances financial performance. Over the years, it has become an inherent element of our business operations, creating value for our customers and other stakeholders."
Castellum has prioritized sustainability right from the company's creation in the mid-nineties – not least from a social corporate responsibility standpoint. For example, the company has been conducting a program where apprentices represent 4% of the workforce, since 2012. Three-quarters of these have been offered permanent positions on completion of their program. As previously communicated, Castellum is also the first project developer in the Nordic region to implement the WELL certification system that takes the health and well-being factors of a building into account.
Castellum currently owns the highest proportion of environmentally certified buildings in Sweden and actively strives to reach several other challenging sustainability goals, for example, becoming an entirely gender-equal company in all occupational categories and to become 100% climate-neutral.
