Shocking numbers
Indoor air pollution has become a worldwide problem. Research shows that many things can harm your health. Pollution can cause 35.7% of the world's respiratory diseases, 22% of chronic lung diseases and 18% of bronchitis and lung cancers. Some relevant organizations in the U.S. have found that 500 kinds of volatile organic compounds exist in indoor air, 20 of which are carcinogenic substances. As a result, indoor air pollution has become one of the five biggest environmental factors that harm people's health in the U.S.
In the U.K., a survey conducted in 500 offices discovered that 12.5% of office air is unhealthy; people who work at these offices feel fatigued and develop rough skin.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong environmental protection agency has found that 37.5% of office air quality is below standard. Indoor environment pollution has become an international concern. When people are paying attention to the blue sky, they should also focus on indoor environment pollution.
Variety of pollution sources
Indoor environment pollution comes from a variety of sources. According to experts, types of indoor pollution based include chemical pollution, radioactive pollution, physical pollution, biological pollution and particulate air pollution. Measurements for these can often be found to be over the standard limits. Decorative materials and furniture are the two main causes of indoor air pollution. Fitments, such as paint, big core board, coating, stone, aggrandisement wood floor and so on, contain toxic and harmful substances such as benzene and formaldehyde. Substances even in interior decoration materials are over the standard limits.
In view of this, Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Indoor Contamination Control Industry Association created the Shanghai International Indoor Environment Quality (IIEQ Show) 2014, which will be concurrently held with China Clean Expo 2014. During this three-day event, indoor environmental purification products and technologies will be displayed. Promotional onsite activities and a high-end conference addressing industry standards and technology will also be held for the purpose of forging a perfect platform for local and international buyers, and for experts and visitors to do business and network.
