Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Achieves HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 6 Award
Technology-enabled, patient-centered care wins international recognition for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi
SINGAPORE, Sept. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- HIMSS Analytics announced today that Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala's network of world-class healthcare facilities, has achieved the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model™ (EMRAM) Stage 6. This is an international benchmark for the use of advanced IT to improve patient care.
This award places Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi among an elite group of world-class healthcare facilities that have successfully deployed a high level of health IT to improve healthcare outcomes. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi also has the unique distinction of being Stage 6-enabled upon opening in March 2015.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's achievement follows last year's attainment of the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Ambulatory Award by Cleveland Clinic Health System. Apart from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, there are 15 HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 hospitals in the Middle East. There are no hospitals at Stage 7 yet.
HIMSS Analytics developed EMRAM in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® Database. Tracking their progress on an 8-stage scale (0-7), hospitals can review the implementation and utilization of IT applications.
Reaching Stage 6 is a result of focus, good direction and a steadfast commitment from leadership. Stage 6 institutions have established clear goals for improving safety, minimizing errors, and prioritizing IT implementations.
Mr John H. Daniels, Global Vice President, Healthcare Advisory Services Group, HIMSS Analytics, said: "Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is one of the most impressive hospitals I have visited around the world. They have replicated many of the highly successful processes used in the Cleveland Clinic main campus in the U.S., and it shows. They are virtually paperless, they use unit-dose barcodes on all medications and blood products, and all clinical documentation is completed in the electronic medical record with extensive clinical decision support capabilities. This is a highly IT-advanced healthcare organization already well on its way to achieving Stage 7."
This 24-story hospital on Al Maryah Island has 364 beds and 26 operating theatres, staffed by more than 3,000 clinical and non-clinical Caregivers. The fully-digital medical campus was specifically designed to enhance the patient journey and support the unique Group Practice Model of Care, a collaborative approach to medicine replicated from US-based Cleveland Clinic.
Mike Reagin, Chief Information Officer, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said: "We are honored and delighted to achieve the HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 award, for our advanced technological capabilities to deliver high-quality, safe and efficient patient care. This award affirms our commitment to delivering Cleveland Clinic-caliber care, enabled by our virtualized technology systems."
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will be officially recognized for its achievement at the HIMSS Middle East UAE eHealth Week 2015, held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai over 4 days from 7 – 10 December 2015. Visit www.uaeehealthweek.org for more information.
