Cologne - the Heart of Germany - will be the Host of BIO-Europe® 2016
CARLSBAD, California and COLOGNE, Germany, August 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Cologne, Germany will be the host of BIO-Europe® 2016 global life science partnering event, November 7-9, 2016.
BIO-Europe is Europe's largest partnering conference serving the global biotechnology industry. The event is a draw for executives in the life sciences who will gain direct access to service and manufacturing partners, innovative assets, and ideas from biotech companies ranging from very early stage to large, established companies. The event is also a critical business strategy for biotech companies to meet with pharma executives and investors to propel their drug development commercialization goals.
Cologne was chosen as the location for this year's event due to its central European location in the Rhineland region of Germany. Cologne is easily accessible for companies across the globe, and is an important center of innovation with 450 life science companies and 121 firms focused on biotechnology.
"Cologne is a well-known European center for innovation, science and research," said Anna Chrisman, Group Managing Director, EBD Group. "It is also a very active cluster, and home to one of the largest biotechnology parks in Germany. There is no better location to build business relationships than in Cologne's knowledge-based industry in the heart of Europe."
"With Cologne being located in the heart of the Rhineland, which celebrates its 20 years as a BioRegion in these days, BIO-Europe has chosen the perfect location for this year's conference," said Bernward Garthoff, Representative for Biotechnology of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia. "Due to the close proximity of the important pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as many research institutes and the Cologne University Hospital, Cologne is one of the most innovative science and business regions with regard to Life Sciences in Germany and Europe, especially in the biopharma area. Over the last years, institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing have been focusing on the ageing processes and its associated diseases. We are looking forward to welcoming all attendees to the oldest city in Germany, where tradition and modernity belong together like Cologne and its cathedral."
BIO-Europe 2015 was the largest to date, bringing together 3,520 executives from 1,886 companies and 55 countries, who engaged in over 19,000 one-to-one meetings to discuss asset deals and strategic collaborations. Last year's edition reached a record high number of partnering meetings, up 7% from 2014, with 4,358 licensing opportunities on offer. There were 162 company presentations and 97 exhibitors.
