Since March 2014, when the first course was run, HS-UK has welcomed a total of 383 delegates on these popular biometry events.
These 'Improving Outcomes' courses have given HS-UK the opportunity to provide both basic and advanced training to a host of candidates, from a wide range of professional backgrounds. Their primary objective is to improve post-refractive outcomes through the delivery of first-class, CPD-accredited education.
These courses are designed to help both beginners and experienced Ophthalmic Consultants get the most from their biometers. The Basic Course covers 'Improving Outcomes' standard biometry methods and is aimed at Cataract and Refractive Nurses, as well as Allied Health Professionals with an interest in biometry. The Advanced day targets Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, along with Healthcare Professionals with a special interest in biometry and focuses on more advanced techniques.
The 'Improving Outcomes' events cover a variety of topics, including; 'The anatomy of the human eye', 'The development and treatment of cataracts' and 'The principles of biometry '. Delegates learn how to analyse biometry data and interpret results, as well as understand IOL calculations. The format of the event includes practical, hands-on workshops and there is an opportunity to discuss case studies and real-world experiences.
Courses have been run in a variety of locations UK-wide, including; Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and London. The expert faculty is made up of members of the Haag-Streit UK Clinical Education and Training (CEaT) team as well as guest Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons, recognised as experts in the cataract field, from across the UK.
Three further 'Improving Outcomes' courses are planned for 2019;
- 7th and 8th March 2019 - Glasgow
- 6th and 7th June 2019 - Birmingham
- 10th and 11th October 2019 - Harlow
Grant Duncan, HS-UK Clinical Training Manager, said, "I am delighted with the success of the 'Improving Outcomes' courses. Over the past 4 years, we have received excellent feedback from delegates and have secured some very well-respected Key Opinion Leaders to deliver first-class lectures on our behalf."
Grant added, "We will continue to host these courses while there is a strong demand for quality biometry education and have already scheduled 3 further course in 2019. We are looking forward to welcoming future 'Improving Outcomes' delegates in Glasgow, Birmingham and at the HS-UK training facility in Harlow."
