CPhI Worldwide 2012 Drives Growth and Innovation in the Pharma Industry
AMSTERDAM, Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading events organiser, UBM Live, announced today that CPhI Worldwide once again delivered an exceptional platform for both growth and innovation in the pharmaceutical industry, with more than 30,000 visitors and 2,200 exhibitors in attendance at this year's show, gathered to establish and re-establish business connections and ink new business deals.
In a pre-show survey conducted by UBM Live, 90% of CPhI visitors rated their business opportunity in the global pharmaceutical market positively. The pre-show optimism was matched at CPhI Worldwide with participating companies reporting about exceptional meetings at the Feria over the three action packed days. Many business deals were closed and blockbuster announcements made by attendees, including a new biocatalysis partnership between Almac and DSM and Novasep's €30m investment to make the "world's largest" chromatography based API production plant.
In addition to eclipsing total attendance figures from Frankfurt in 2011, UBM Live also celebrated the growing diversity of the Pharma industry with record representation from over 140 countries on the show floor in Madrid. Fifteen of these countries were spotlighted in the Global Pavilions format, which featured products and services from each corresponding country in returning pavilions for China, India, Korea, Argentina, Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, North Africa, Egypt, Morocco and North America. The format was larger than ever before with two newcomers from Russia and Malaysia.
"Our main goal as the organisers of CPhI Worldwide is to create an environment that drives growth and innovation for the global Pharma industry," commented Andrew Pert, Brand Director at UBM Live. "Anyone walking the expo halls could see that the show was successfully facilitating business connections. People from across the globe were able to make new partnerships and learn about the most important trends and regulations in the industry, all in one place. On top of this, the winners of the CPhI Pharma Awards acted as a clear reflection of the innovation that is happening in Pharma on an ongoing basis."
The announcement of the CPhI Pharma Awards winners for Best Innovation in Pharma, Best Sustainable Packaging and Best Sustainable Stand Design, served to celebrate global diversity, innovation and sustainability in the pharmaceutical industry. The gold winner of the Best Innovation award was Haemopharm Healthcare's NIV for their needle free vial closure. Silver went to Merck Millipore's bimodal silica, which is used as a drug delivery platform and bronze was awarded to BioClin's Multi-Oral Remin remineralisation gel for application in the oral cavity. The Best Sustainable Stand Design award was given to Solvias, who also won this award last year in Frankfurt. Finally, the newest introduction to the awards line up, Best Sustainable Packaging, celebrated MWV Healthcare's Shellpak Renew Medication Adherence-Enhancing Solution.
"We feel it is important to not just say that we support innovation for the industry, but to show it through our offering. Introductions like the CPhI mobile app, the CPhI Global Meetings programme, and the expansion of our zoning format to highlight more specific sectors of the industry than ever before, mirror our goal of providing attendees and exhibitors more value leading into the event and while onsite. These features were built in to offer comprehensive information to all attendees and allow for better planning and navigation of the event, and we will continue looking at new ways to innovate for an improved event experience," Pert continued.
CPhI Worldwide, the flagship event in the CPhI Pharma portfolio, was held from October 9th to 11th at the Feria de Madrid and complemented by co-located shows ICSE for contract and outsourced services, P-MEC Europe for pharmaceutical machinery and equipment, and InnoPack for innovative packaging solutions. It is part of a global rotation of CPhI events in India, Southeast Asia, Japan, China, and South America. While onsite in Madrid, organisers announced that this portfolio would expand once again to include Russia. The new event will be co-located with IPhEB (the International Forum for Pharmacy, Medical, Equipment and Biotechnology) from April 10 -11, 2013 at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall in St. Petersburg.
