Cryo-Save Launches Africa's Most State-of-the-Art Cryogenic Storage Laboratory
ZURICH, January 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Today, Cryo-Save opens the doors to their state-of-the-art laboratory in Pretoria, the executive capital of South Africa. The newly built laboratory is the most modern facility of its kind in the whole of Africa, and is the largest stem cell storage facility on the continent. It replaces the Cape Town lab. Cryo-Save is the leading family stem cell bank storing more than 225,000 stem cell samples from umbilical cord blood and umbilical cord tissue.
Cryo-Save has over ten years' experience and state-of-the-art technical know-how, providing the basis for a strong and reliable organization. Driven by its international business strategy, Cryo-Save stores samples from over 70 countries on six continents and has state-of-the-art processing facilities in Belgium, Germany, Dubai, India and South Africa.
"As the most advanced stem cell cryogenic storage laboratory on the African continent, our new facility offers cutting edge technology and expertise to African families. Our state-of-the-art lab allows them to store stem cells from umbilical cord blood and cord tissue to the highest standards, safeguarding their loved ones," says Arnoud van Tulder, CEO Cryo-Save AG.
Cord blood contains specialised stem cells which have the unique ability to develop into all the different blood cell types and Cryo-Save plays a key role in making stem cell storage possible for South Africa and sub-Sahara countries. Saving these cells ensures lifelong access to the baby's own pure stem cells, for the child or its siblings, that could be used to treat many, often fatal, diseases that could occur later in life.
"In addition to offering our clients services with world class standards, the new laboratory will also bring opportunities to support selected clinical trials and research projects. Going forward, Cryo-Save South Africa will also be able to offer other cryogenic services to the medical industry. This is something we are very excited about," concludes Louis Rehrl, Managing director at Cryo-Save South Africa.
