Cycle Stuff Direct Looks at the Issues with Cycling
SOUTHAMPTON, England, January 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Cycling has become much more popular recently, especially with the increased coverage in the press, however, as people splash out on new bicycles, are there actually enough resources for cyclists and how can the risk of theft be reduced? Bicycle clothing and accessories website, Cycle Stuff Direct, look at these issues.
Cycling has had huge exposure in the media over the recent months with the success of the London Olympics, Bradley Wiggins winning the 2012 Tour de France, being made 2012 BBC Sports Personality of the Year and being knighted in a special United Kingdom New Year's Honours list, and of course there's the bad with Lance Armstrong's controversial confession to doping - however, this has all put cycling on the map and more people are aware of this superb sport.
Andy Stevens, Cycle Development Manager at Cycle Stuff Direct says "Many people are now getting inspired and swapping their car for a bike, which is great news. Retailers like ourselves have also witnessed the sales of bicycles, bicycle accessories and clothing pick up over the Christmas period. However, there are still issues that could be holding cyclists back."
Andy points out that there are still safety concerns, but another big issue is the lack of cycle parking at workplaces, outside shops or at railway stations, making theft another issue.
Unfortunately bicycles are becoming a more popular target for thieves, especially as there is more awareness of how much bicycles are worth. However, there are a few things that cyclists can do to help keep thieves away, including registering and marking their bicycle and using a secure D lock with an up to date certified locking mechanism.
Andy explains, "A good quality D Lock secured around the frame is going to be the best deterrent for thieves, cyclists could even consider using more than one lock, or a lock extender, and secure both wheels to a cycle stand as well."
Another thing that bicycle owners tend to forget about is security at home, which is understandable, as it's the one place where people should feel safe and secure. Burglary has increased and with many home insurance companies not replacing most bikes, a big heavyweight chain fed through a secure ground anchor could protect every cyclist's pride and joy!
With the raised profile of cycling, people are bound to want to give the sport a go which is excellent. Hopefully there will be additional resources to encourage more people to get involved with cycling including bicycle parking and that theft will be taken more seriously to help put minds at ease.
Cycle Stuff Direct is an online bicycle accessories and clothing retailer offering a huge range of quality products at competitive prices. Andy Stevens is the Cycle Development Manager who also has a keen interest in cycling.
