TREVISO, Italy, May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
A big refurbishment in the San Sebastian city center intended to host contemporary art in a comfortable building
Tabakalera is the name of one of the biggest buildings in San Sebastian, Spain: it takes up one of the biggest plots -13.277 m2 - in the urban area.
For 90 years (1913-2003) Tabakalera was the town tobacco factory. In 2003 the factory was closed. A year later, in 2004, the City Council, the Provincial Council and the Basque Government bought the building in order to transform it into an international contemporary culture centre and as a result, the building is now being renovated.
Tabakalera is a centre for the creation of contemporary culture, with the ambition of also generating critical thought, reflection and debate.
The main goal of the cultural project is to promote contemporary cultural creation in different creative fields through all its stages (research, production, exhibition) and to generate and share knowledge.
The cultural project will be the driving force behind all the activities which take place in the building, comprising of a variety of cultural initiatives. This will help create a robust creative community and provide a platform for collaborative work between assorted organisations and the general public. This project is promoted by the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the San Sebastian City Council.
The comfort in the new cultural center will be ensured by an innovative HVAC system, based on 2 DeLclima TECS chillers with magnetic levitation compressors and 1 DeLclima FOCS2-K chiller with screw compressors for a total installed cooling capacity of 1880 kW.
