LONDON, July 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
- Global messaging services will provide a foundation for enhanced collaboration
- New contract enables BP's use of cloud for email services
- Over 83,000 BP end users will communicate via cloud
Deutsche Telekom (DT) has won a contract with BP to supply cloud messaging services to more than 83,000 employees. DT's corporate customer division T-Systems will provide Exchange 2010 to BP employees around the globe. The secure private cloud will support access to email from a range of mobile and computer devices used by employees in all areas of BP.
Under the five year contract, T-Systems will move BP's Exchange 2003 to an Exchange 2010 service equipping BP's users with enhanced capabilities. The cloud service will enable BP to enjoy greater cost transparency through a "pay-per-use" model linked to the consumption of services provided. Automation will also enable BP to add or remove large numbers of users to the service almost instantaneously. The combination of enterprise scalability with industrialized operations will provide BP with a reliable, secure and cost-efficient model for its messaging services.
The contract represents a key milestone for BP. Dana Deasy, BP Group CIO, said: "We are looking forward to working as partners with T-Systems to enable BP employees to connect and collaborate using any device, anywhere, at any time."
The contract with BP follows a series of major cloud deal announcements for T-Systems. "The development and provision of cloud services is a key component of Deutsche Telekom's strategy. Over the last seven years, T-Systems has become a recognised cloud leader and our unique collaboration offering from the cloud is a first choice for large enterprises. We are very proud to deepen our business relationship with BP," comments Reinhard Clemens, Board of Management at Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems CEO.
The T-Systems messaging services solution is based on its Dynamic Services for Collaboration (DSC) suite of integrated offerings, providing the foundation for collaboration tools such as Lync and SharePoint.
The migration of BP's email services to the cloud will be carried out between now and June 2013. T-Systems has partnered with EMC Consulting to carry out the mailbox migration process.-EMC Consulting has proven messaging service migration methodologies, tools and experience which will complement T-Systems' expertise and reduce BP's migration risk. During transformation, over 100,000 mailboxes will be migrated to the T-Systems private cloud.
In 2009, T-Systems was appointed as BP's Lead Telecom Services Integrator responsible for BP's global network transformation for next generation voice and data services.-In July 2011 T-Systems increased the range of services provided to BP when it secured a deal for the provision of Firewall services.
