Prestigious Industry Accolade Awarded to DigitalRoute and Vodacom for Mediation Transformation Project
STOCKHOLM, May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
DigitalRoute, the leading provider of mediation solutions globally, today announced that it has won a distinguished Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award in the "Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation" category. Presented by Global Telecoms Business, a leading telco magazine, the award honors the most innovative telecommunication achievements that are defining the present and future course of the industry. DigitalRoute received the award jointly with Vodacom, South Africa's leading telecommunications company, for the two companies' central roles in the CSP's transformative mediation replacement project that was successfully completed in 2013.

DigitalRoute's MediationZone platform was initially selected by Vodacom to replace a legacy mediation solution that had been in use for over a decade but which was reaching the end of its shelf life. Vodacom had to urgently investigate replacement alternatives as processing capacity was being reached and the cost of the hardware upgrades, in the region of 100 million SA Rand, necessary to extend this were prohibitive.
The Innovation Award-winning transformation project, which took into account mediation for all Vodacom's lines of business, was staged over an approximately 14 month period with the first phase going live in as little as eight months. At its conclusion, Vodacom was feeding some 42 million Packet Data Network gateway events and up to 60 million CDRs a day into MediationZone, sourced from 25 data streams pulled from elements across its entire network.
"The Vodacom Mediation Transformation Project has reduced times-to- market for new products and services and also reduced unnecessary development work as a result of the new MediationZone architecture. Today, if there's a business-critical requirement we are confident we can deploy it without delay. We are extremely honored that the project has been recognized among the many amazing innovations in telco that were represented at the Global Telecoms Business awards," said Keith Kriel, manager of Mediation Application Development at Vodacom.
"We are delighted that our work with Vodacom has been acknowledged with this award," said Johan Bergh, Chief Executive Officer, DigitalRoute. Our solution delivers data management capabilities that can power Vodacom's BSS infrastructure into supporting a new generation of services."
The Global Telecoms Business awards were presented to winners at a gala dinner at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London last night. Hundreds of leaders in the global telecom industry attended the ceremony.
