The UK IT Industry Awards, presented by the British Computer Society (BCS), the Chartered Institute for IT, in association with Computing magazine, represent the benchmark for excellence for the entire IT profession, showcasing best practice and innovation.
Dr. Mike Lynch is recognised for founding a number of technology companies, including Autonomy in 1996, one of the fastest-growing, highest-margin software companies in the business. Dr. Lynch studied Information Sciences at Cambridge University, where he received a Ph.D. and held a research fellowship in adaptive pattern recognition. He was awarded an OBE for Services to Enterprise, and holds a number of advisory and board roles in the venture capital industry, serving as a non-executive director of the BBC and the British Library. Dr. Lynch has won numerous awards, such as the Confederation of British Industry's Entrepreneur of the Year, the European Business Leaders Awards' Innovator of the Year for pioneering new approaches to search and information processing technology, and Management Today's Entrepreneur of the Year 2009. Mike won an IEE Award for Outstanding Achievement.
He is also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Lady Margaret Beaufort Fellow of Christ's College, Cambridge, and the author of a number of academic papers on the subject of Pattern Recognition and Signal Processing.
"Mike Lynch's contribution to UK IT is truly exceptional," said David Clarke, MBE, Chief Executive Officer, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. "He has very clearly demonstrated what success looks like for the UK IT Profession. Dr. Lynch is an example to us all and especially current and upcoming entrepreneurs; he has shown that with the right attitude, drive and ability, you can achieve truly impressive results in the UK."
"I am very honoured to be presented this award by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and Computing," commented Dr. Mike Lynch. "Autonomy has grown to be the success it is today thanks to the great talent pool and technical expertise that exists in Britain, and is proof that the UK has what it takes to take innovation to the next level and shake up the industry on a global scale."
