Ekahau Enhances Real-Time Location System to Offer 20x More Scalability and Enhanced Reliability
- Meets scalability requirements of healthcare customers with multiple sites and high availability demands to support critical applications.
RESTON, Virginia, Feb. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ekahau Inc., the high-performance leader in Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) using Wi-Fi, announced today greater system scalability to support the company's move into larger healthcare environments. The Ekahau Real-Time Location System features a new architecture that centralizes Ekahau's location-tracking algorithms and tag management software. The associated Ekahau Vision™ location analytics application was also re-designed to allow customers with significant campus footprints and multiple remote sites to rapidly expand their RTLS deployments. In addition, Ekahau's new hot-standby feature ensures high reliability for hospitals adopting life-critical applications such as staff safety alerting and real-time patient tracking.
Ekahau's new centralized distribution architecture significantly improves system scalability by increasing the volume of Wi-Fi tags managed by a single Ekahau software controller by more than 20 times. One Ekahau master RTLS controller can now service up to 10 remote software nodes, so that customers can rapidly add as many new floor plan maps and Ekahau asset tags, badges and temperature sensors as needed, without creating separate and limited systems. In addition, a single Ekahau Vision™ web-based sign-on ensures that customers can search for assets and people and view workflows across multiple buildings and campuses, worldwide, from anywhere.
In addition to greater scalability, the newly upgraded Ekahau RTLS software enhances deployments requiring high reliability by offering a hot-standby feature that maximizes service uptime. The high reliability Ekahau RTLS model is based on two concurrently running primary and back-up systems that each contain location and tag data. If the primary system is unreachable due to a software or hardware failure, the back-up system seamlessly replaces it to ensure uninterrupted service to life-critical hospital applications.
"Many of our customers are expanding their deployments and relying on our RTLS for mission-critical applications," said Mark Norris, President and CEO of Ekahau. "That's why we invested in making our architecture smarter so that it seamlessly grows with customers while ensuring high reliability."
Ekahau is demonstrating the Ekahau RTLS for Asset Tracking and Management, Staff Safety and Optimization, Patient Safety and Throughput and Environmental Monitoring and Sensing at the HIMSS 2013 Annual Conference & Exhibition, March 3-7, 2013 in New Orleans at booth #4311.
Ekahau is also showcasing our staff and patient location-based safety alert solution and temperature sensing solution in the HIMSS Intelligent Hospital Pavilion, at booth #8711.
