Elsevier and the American Geophysical Union Collaborate to Increase the Precision of Subsurface Geology Research

More than 80,000 geological maps added to Geofacets, Elsevier's geoscience solution platform for natural resource exploration geoscientists
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced that select content from some of the American Geophysical Union's (AGU) leading journals is now available in Geofacets. This addition of 80,000 maps will further increase the amount of essential geological information in the database, helping geoscientists make more informed interpretations and gain greater confidence in their recommendations and decisions regarding investments in new exploration opportunities.
Content to be added to Geofacets includes maps from around the globe, ranging from geologic to those with more specialized disciplines, such as tectonics, geophysics, geochemistry and oceanography. The content is sourced from eight AGU journals, including Tectonics, Journal of Geophysical Research (e.g., Earth Surface, Biogeosciences), Paleoceanography and Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. This integration will increase Geofacets' content portfolio to more than 550,000 maps by the end of 2015.
Geofacets is a geoscience solution that enables comprehensive, in-depth research of subsurface geology. By providing georeferenced maps from trusted scientific sources that can be seamlessly integrated into GIS, modelling and presentation software, geoscientists will be able to enhance their geologic knowledge and insight.

Following an agreement with Wiley in January 2015, AGU joins other organizations including the Geological Society of London, the SEPM/Society for Sedimentary Geology, the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG), and the Geological Society of America in providing geoscientists seamless access to maps sourced from a subset of its publications. As part of the collaboration, AGU members will also have access to a special Millennium Edition of Geofacets.
