Elsevier and the American Society for Pain Management Nursing Announce Collaboration on eLearning Product
PHILADELPHIA, August 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Online lesson to help new nurses effectively manage patients' pain
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN), the leading organization dedicated to the advancement and promotion of optimal nursing care for people affected by pain, announced today a collaboration to develop a pain management lesson. The online lesson will be part of a new eLearning product that focuses on helping nursing professional development specialists successfully transition new nurses to the acute-care, medical-surgical setting.
"Our collaboration with ASPMN helps ensure that nurses, especially those new to practice, are educated about pain management issues and treatment," said Cindy Tryniszewski, RN, MSN, Executive Director, Clinical eLearning, Elsevier Clinical Solutions. "Nurses are often the most effective patient advocates, and they understand that pain can have a dramatic effect on a person's ability to have a productive life."
Everyone, regardless of income, race, gender, age, status or geographic location, should have access to effective pain management, according to Tryniszewski. "Our co-developed lesson will help nurses deliver interdisciplinary, individualized pain management. Pain management is not a one-size-fits-all and often requires a combination of therapies to achieve the best results," Tryniszewski said.
Development of the course is underway, and it is scheduled to launch in early 2016. The course will be rich in interactive elements to promote critical thinking and the application of knowledge in real world clinical situations. Additionally, nursing professional development specialists will have access to several targeted resources to help implement an effective transition program.
ASPMN President, Helen N. Turner, DNP, RN-BC, PCNS-BC, FAAN, AP-PMN, said, "Every nurse is responsible for pain assessment and management, no matter their patient population or clinical setting. In effect, every nurse is a pain management nurse and this collaborative effort is a critical step toward ensuring all nurses receive current, evidence based, and clinically relevant knowledge related to pain management."
This new collaboration adds to Elsevier's library of exclusive, co-developed products with key nursing associations, including the Association for Nursing Professional Development, Emergency Nurses Association, and American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
