PHILADELPHIA, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
New interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to improving patient care
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the launch of Perioperative Care and Operating Room Management, a new multispecialty, peer-review journal that provides high-quality information and research findings on operational and system-based approaches to ensure safe, coordinated, and high-value patient care immediately preceding, during, and soon after medical procedures. The first issue of this quarterly journal is scheduled for publication in September 2015.
David H. Berger, MD, Professor of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Houston, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the new journal. His many academic and professional accomplishments include having served as president of both the Association for Academic Surgery and the Association of VA Surgeons.
"With the current focus on value in health care it is essential that there is a venue for researchers to publish articles on the administrative, economic, operational, safety, and quality aspects of the ambulatory and in-patient operating room and interventional procedural processes," explained Dr. Berger. "The editorial board and I envision that this new journal will become the authoritative information resource for health care professionals on how to efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely coordinate and improve periprocedural care in a patient-centered manner."
Guided by an eminent editorial board, Perioperative Care and Operating Room Management supports open access and publishes traditional research articles, subject reviews, performance improvement projects, concept papers, letters, expert opinion, and editorials. Topics covered include among others: quality improvement process initiatives, patient safety, staffing and human factors, process flow modeling, information management, efficient design, cost improvement, use of novel technologies, and management.
This journal's audience includes all groups who participate in the planning, execution, and monitoring of periprocedural process, including medical specialists (surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, and interventional radiologists), nurses, administrators, pharmacists, systems and process engineers, health care architects, and other health care providers.
Allan Ross, Senior Publisher at Elsevier, added, "We are extremely pleased to add this high-quality, interdisciplinary journal to our surgery portfolio and are confident of its success. With its launch our goal is to provide a new and much needed outlet that is dedicated to meet the needs of this diverse group of authors and readers concerned with providing optimal perioperative care."
