TIMISOARA, Romania, November 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Horia Holubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering and the Journal of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases receive "Scopus Award Romania 2015" for consistency in research performance excellence
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, has announced the winners of the "Scopus Awards Romania 2015" in two categories: Research Excellence and Journal Excellence. These awards were launched for the first time in Romania and aim to showcase good practice in research to inspire and further motivate the Romanian research community.
The award ceremony was held during the 3rd Romanian Conference on Access to Scientific Literature and hosted more than 70 local high-level research officials, journal editors and library representatives, including the President of Romanian Academy of Science, Professor Ionel Haiduc.
Together the Research Excellence Award and the Journal Excellence Award recognize outstanding research institutions and journals in Romania that have demonstrated consistency in research performance excellence. Elsevier provided quantitative analyses to determine the winner for each award category; analyses were based on publication and citation data from Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature.
The winners of the Scopus Awards Romania 2015 awards are:
- Research Excellence: Horia Holubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering
- Journal Excellence: Journal of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases
"We are honored to win this award. We consider it an expression of appreciation for our achievements in science and of our positive impact in industry, other business areas, and on society at large," said Dr. Maria Dinescu, Chief of Library, Dissemination and PR, receiving the award on behalf of the Horia Holubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Romania.
"We are very proud, and, of course, extremely happy to receive this Scopus Award. It was challenging to develop a new, completely English-written journal in Romania in the early 90s, a journal that is now able to compete with high quality international journals," said Professor Acalovschi, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, receiving the award on behalf of the journal team.
Endre Béky, Elsevier Regional Director for Eastern Europe & Russia, commented, "It is our pleasure to bring the Scopus Awards to Romania. Awards programs are part of a global Elsevier initiative and aim to advance science. It is an honor to collaborate with the Romanian academic and research community to further stimulate research growth in Romania and the whole Eastern European region."
