Elsevier Collaborates with the Association for Nursing Professional Development and OSU College of Nursing to Launch Second National Survey on Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing
PHILADELPHIA, July 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Survey to be launched at ANPD Annual Convention where Elsevier is a Diamond Sponsor and hosting a breakfast on new graduate transitions into practice
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, will collaborate with the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) and the Ohio State University College of Nursing (OSU CON) to launch a second national survey on evidence-based practice in nursing. The survey will be announced at the opening of the ANPD Annual Convention, July 14-17, in Las Vegas.
The new survey - "Evidence-based Practice and U.S. Healthcare Outcomes: Findings from a National Survey with Nursing Professional Development Specialists" - will focus on nursing professional development specialists and be coordinated by Michelle Troseth, MSN, RN, DPNAP, FAAN, Chief Professional Practice Officer, Elsevier Clinical Solutions; Lynn Gallagher Ford, PhD, RN, DPFNAP, NE-BC, Director for the Center for Transdisciplinary Evidence-based Practice, OSU CON; and Mary Harper, PhD, RN-BC, Director of Nursing Professional Development for ANPD. The survey finding will be published in an advisory report, and Elsevier Clinical Solutions will join ANPD to share the findings at the ANPD convention in July 2016 in Pittsburgh.
"Together, we are committed to applying and conducting the work necessary to have evidence-based practice - EBP - be the standard for healthcare," Troseth said. "We recognize the critical role nurse professional development specialists play in this quest to improve healthcare quality and safety as well as to reduce costs through evidence-based care."
This survey is the second time OSU CON has collaborated with Elsevier Clinical Solutions to provide insights for leaders on how to advance evidence-based practice for healthcare. Findings from the first survey that focused on chief nurse executives indicated that, despite patient safety and quality being top strategic initiatives for their healthcare organizations, the implementation of EBP is relatively low and more than one-third of organizations are not meeting national benchmarks for key performance metrics.
"We are thrilled to share in this scholarly work with Elsevier and Ohio State University leaders to uncover the realities of nurse professional development specialists as it relates to EBP and outcomes. It is only knowing those realities that we can make an impact for the profession and patients," said Joan Warren, PhD, RN-BC, NEA-BC, President of ANPD.
"We are at a time in healthcare where evidence-based practice is critically important for our nation's health and is the direct path to quality and safety in healthcare. This second research survey of nursing leadership will provide more insights to boldly advance EBP for healthcare," said Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, RN, CPNP/PMHNP, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, Associate VP for Health Promotion, University Chief Wellness Officer, Dean and Professor of the CON at The Ohio State University.
In addition, Elsevier Clinical Solutions, as the Diamond sponsor of the ANPD Annual Convention, will host a breakfast from 7:15 - 8 am, Wed., July 15, offering attendees an opportunity to learn about "Group Mentoring in the Medical/Surgical Setting: Taking the Gamble Out of New Graduate Transition to Practice." Presenters include Elizabeth Campbell, MSN, RN, the Nursing Lab and Clinical Placement Coordinator, Lawrence Memorial/Regis College Nursing and Radiography Programs in Medford, Mass., and Thomas Gunning, BSN, RN, the Patient Care Director/Behavioral Health at Hallmark Health, and adjunct faculty Lawrence Memorial/Regis College Nursing and Radiology program, also in Medford.
This special breakfast presentation will share how one organization successfully implemented a mentoring program for newly licensed RNs transitioning into medical-surgical nursing practice and provide strategies that promote early success in practice during orientation and develop a sense of community among newly licensed RNs within their setting.
Registered attendees can sign up for the breakfast presentation event by logging in to their registration page at http://www.anpd.org.
