Elsevier Conference Global Food Security Honored at 2014 UK Conference Award Ceremony
AMSTERDAM, July 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
1st International Conference on Global Food Security awarded Mark of Excellence in Best New Product Category
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, is pleased to announce that for the second year running an Elsevier Conference was honored at the prestigious UK Conference Awards ceremony held annually in London.
Elsevier was awarded "Mark of Excellence" in the Best New Product category for its 1st International Conference on Global Food Security, held early 29 September - 2 October 2013 in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands. This landmark conference brought together more than 600 scientists, researchers, policy makers, technologists and industry representatives from over 65 countries to discuss a very daunting question we all face today: how to feed our growing global population? It sparked lively, sometimes controversial, debate and provided a robust scientific underpinning of a previously policy-led issue, and surpassed all expectations both in terms of numbers and, crucially, delegate experience.
Gilles Jonker, Executive Publisher for Elsevier's Food and Agriculture journal portfolio, said, "We are very proud to be recognized with this conference award. It is because of the excellent scientific committee behind the conference, the speakers and panelists that we were able to organize this important new conference for this emerging research community."
Buoyed by the success of the first conference, plans and preparations for the 2nd International Conference on Global Food Security are already well underway, schedule to take place at Cornell University, New York in 2015.
Nigel Clear, Director of Elsevier Conferences said, "We are delighted to receive this award which reflects the outstanding success of this important inaugural conference. As part of the Elsevier mission to lead the way in advancing science, technology and health, Elsevier conferences address the technological and sociological challenges faced by the world today. What could be more fundamental and crucial than the question how to feed a growing global population in a sustainable way? As conference organizers we should never forget the role that we can play in shaping the future and we are honored to be recognized for the work we do."
Last year Elsevier conference Planet Under Pressure was awarded the prize for Best New Product category.
The UK Conference Awards is now in its fifth year and is considered the event for the UK conference business to come together and recognise and celebrate the very best in the industry. The 2014 event welcomed a record attendance of over 750 industry professionals to reward success and innovation in the market.
