Elsevier Enhances Its Pulmonary Patient Education Video Content, Introduces New Bariatric Video Library
PHILADELPHIA, November 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
New Video Content Reflects Current Medical Information and Includes Live Simulations and 3D Graphics to Educate Patients
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, has expanded its pulmonary patient education video library, adding more than 50 new titles, and introduced a bariatric video library. In addition, Elsevier has launched six individual video titles focused on in-demand topics including Fall Prevention, Lumbar Puncture, Thoracentesis, Reducing Falls After Stroke, and Pressure Injury Prevention. All of the new titles are available in English and Spanish.
The videos, created with Elsevier evidence-based content, include a mix of ambulatory and inpatient content targeted to physicians, nurses, medical assistants and patients. The pulmonary videos are designed to treat and improve the lives of patients with typically chronic conditions, while the bariatric videos address the patient journey before, during and after treatment.
"Healthcare is facing a rise in pulmonary-related conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in 12 people (about 25 million) have asthma[1], and the American Lung Association reports that more than 11 million have been diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)[2].. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced Hospital Readmission Reduction Program (HRRP) to incent hospitals to develop quality and readmission prevention programs for chronic illnesses, such as COPD. Our patient-friendly videos will assist the patient in understanding their illness, taking action, and empowering them to manage their conditions," said Julibeth Lauren, PhD, APRN-BC, CNS VP, Editor-in-Chief, Patient Engagement, Elsevier Clinical Solutions. "This new video release includes topics to help support hospitals in improving patient quality and safety initiatives such as Pressure Injury Prevention and Falls Prevention. We are also introducing new videos to assist patients in shared decision-making around bariatric surgery treatment options."
The new pulmonary and bariatric patient education video libraries include:
- Fifty-seven new pulmonary titles, including videos such as Asthma Signs and Symptoms, Pre-adolescent Asthma, Causes and Risk Factors of COPD, and Pulmonary Rehabilitation that address many more pulmonary-specific ailments. Also, new pulmonary titles include expanded segments on COPD, General Pulmonary and Interstitial Lung Disease.
- Seven pulmonary videos created specifically for pre-adolescents and adolescents.
- Eight new bariatric videos designed to educate patients on the most frequently performed bariatric surgeries, including gastric band, gastric bypass, and sleeve gastrectomy. Additional titles cover the bariatric journey, providing patients with pre-surgery, surgery and post-surgery information.
- Patient safety and quality initiatives such as Falls Prevention, Medication Safety, and Pressure Injury Prevention.
"Using video to educate patients is an excellent way to improve patient engagement," said Lauren. "It allows you to provide patients with differing learning styles and health literacy levels, understandable and actionable information they need in order to make informed choices."
