Elsevier Launches New Review Journal: Global Food Security
AMSTERDAM, January 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
First issue now freely available on ScienceDirect
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of a new review journal: Global Food Security.
The launch of the journal is driven by a global concern that scientists and policy makers have great difficulty keeping up with the expanding volume of information about the challenge of meeting human food and nutritional needs whilst at the same time protecting environmental services. Global Food Security aims to publish papers that contribute to a better understanding of the economic, social, biophysical, technological, and institutional influencers of current and future global food security. At the same time the journal will stimulate debate across disciplines. The goal is to publish concise and timely reviews and synthesis articles about research covering the following elements of food security:
- Availability (sufficiency; quantity and quality)
- Access (affordability, functioning markets and policies)
- Nutrition, Safety and Sanitation
- Stability and Environment (resilience and ecosystem services)
"Food security is the key to achieving a world without hunger and poverty, and one in which natural resources are conserved for future generations," says Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Kenneth G. Cassman (University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Lincoln, NE, USA). "Ensuring a food-secure world requires critical examination of a number of key issues. Global Food Security aims to help scientists reach consensus about these key issues, thereby accelerating progress towards a world without hunger and poverty."
"As I spoke with scientists and policymakers around the world, a need for a strong interdisciplinary journal soon became apparent to me - a journal that could bring together and package the most important and up to date information," explained Gilles Jonker, Executive Publisher at Elsevier. "With the launch of this journal Elsevier is providing a valuable resource for all those working to maintain and improve global nutrition levels."
All articles published in the first two issues are now freely available on Science Direct. Global Food Security will publish four issues per year.
