Elsevier Launches PATHPrimer, First Comprehensive Online Pathology Curriculum Available for Pathology Residents, Physicians and Faculty
PHILADELPHIA, March 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Fills significant gap in pathology physician and resident education; to launch at United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology Annual Meeting, March 12-18
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the launch of PATHPrimer, the first integrated web-based pathology curriculum. PATHPrimer draws upon the knowledge and expertise of thought leaders in pathology to deliver the most comprehensive anatomic pathology curriculum available. The PATHPrimer official launch will take place at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) 105th Annual Meeting taking place at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA.
"PATHPrimer fills a significant gap in educating pathology physicians and residents," said Dr. David Hicks, Director of Surgical Pathology, University of Rochester and a lead editor of PATHPrimer. "Its synoptic, expert-based content guides educators and students as they determine training objectives, hone their diagnostic skills, track learning progress and gain practical knowledge."
Visitors to the Elsevier booth at USCAP (Booth # 1030) can play a "Test Your Knowledge" game, where participants will receive a $10 Elsevier book credit and a chance for a one-year subscription to PATHPrimer. Also, one of PATHPrimer's lead editors, Dr. Alexandros Polydorides, will make an appearance at the Elsevier booth to answer visitor questions on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, March 14th and 15th. Dr. Polydorides is Associate Professor of Pathology & Medicine (Gastroenterology), the Icahn School of Medicine, and Mt. Sinai and Attending Pathologist, Division of Gastrointestinal Pathology, The Mt. Sinai Hospital.
PATHPrimer's key features and functions include:
- Lessons and topics that cover core disciplines, with more than 1,500 topics and over 1,200 primer questions addressing anatomic pathology;
- The ability for residents and educators to easily identify learning objectives, assess progress and customize studies;
- Content sourced from Anatomic Pathology Board Review by Jay H. Lefkowitch, as well as Diagnostic Pathology series to sharpen diagnostic skills, prepare physicians for certification and ensure consistent, high-quality care.
For Pathology residents, PATHPrimer delivers the first-ever digital pathology curriculum covering all content in the American Board of Pathology Certification and Recertification Exams for anatomic pathology. Residents can use the curriculum to gain competence as a physician as they move through each rotation in their program. Once they've completed a specific area of the curriculum, they can check how they are performing compared to other residents. They also can use the comprehensive practice engine to prepare for the board exam.
Program directors and teaching faculty are provided with a consistent curriculum across all academic pathology disciplines, giving faculty more time to share their own personal experiences and expertise with residents. They can also track resident progress through the curriculum and monitor performance, gaining important insights such as which residents may require additional assistance and the areas in which their performance is the strongest.
