Elsevier to Announce Results of Second National Survey on Evidence-based Practice With ANPD and OSU College of Nursing at ANPD Annual Convention
PHILADELPHIA, July 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Results to be Presented at General Session; Elsevier, as 2016 Diamond Sponsor, Also to Sponsor Breakfast and Preceptor Course
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, will announce the results of a second national study launched in collaboration with the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) and the Ohio State University College of Nursing (OSU CON) on evidence-based practice in nursing. The announcement will be made during a general session at the ANPD Annual Convention, July 19-22, in Pittsburgh, PA.
The results of the survey, "Evidence-based Practice and U.S. Healthcare Outcomes: Findings from a National Survey with Nursing Professional Development Practitioners," will focus on evidence-based practice (EBP) beliefs, implementation and perceived organizational culture in nursing professional development practitioners, and determine relationships among these variables and a variety of critical healthcare outcomes. The survey results will be presented by Michelle Troseth, MSN, RN, DPNAP, FAAN, Chief Professional Practice Officer, Elsevier Clinical Solutions; Lynn Gallagher-Ford, PhD, RN, DPFNAP, NE-BC, Director of the Center for Transdisciplinary Evidence-based Practice, OSU CON; Mary Harper, PhD, RN-BC, Director of Nursing Professional Development, ANPD; and Joan Warren, PhD, RN-BC, NEA-BC, FAAN, ANPD President.
"Together, we are committed to applying and conducting the work necessary to have evidence-based practice be the standard for healthcare," said Troseth. "Based on the findings of our previous survey, we felt it was important to dig deeper into the critical role nurse professional development practitioners play in the advancement of EBP to improve healthcare quality and safety and more significantly, how culture and actions impact patient care and outcomes."
This survey is the second time OSU CON has collaborated with Elsevier Clinical Solutions to provide insights for leaders on how to advance EBP for healthcare. The first study, which focused on chief nurse executives found that, despite patient safety and quality being top strategic initiatives for their organizations, the implementation of EBP was relatively low, with more than one-third not meeting national benchmarks for key performance metrics.
"We are thrilled to share in this scholarly work with Elsevier and Ohio State University, this time to uncover the realities of nursing professional development practitioners as relates to EBP and outcomes. It is in knowing these realities that we can have an impact on patients and the profession," said Harper.
"This second research study of nursing definitely provides us with more insights to boldly advance EBP for healthcare," said Gallagher-Ford. "We are at a time in healthcare where EBP is critically important for the health of our nation and leads to quality and safety in healthcare."
As Diamond Sponsor, Elsevier Clinical Solutions also will host a welcome reception on Tuesday evening, July 19, and breakfast on Wednesday, July 20, entitled, "Pathways to Success for a Clinical and Professional Residency." Elsevier also is sponsoring a preceptor session, "Fostering Reflective Practice among Novice Nurses: A Critical Role for Preceptors."
To support Elsevier's sponsorship, the company will implement a robust marketing and social media plan that includes:
- A specially-created landing page that offers several case study downloads on learning and competency management, patient engagement, clinical practice, and clinical reference.
- An Elsevier Twitter hashtag for the convention, #ElsevierAspires to complement the ANPD convention hashtag, #ANPDAspire2016.
- Elsevier booth activities (Booth 301) including giveaways and featuring an interactive wall at which conference attendees can post aspirations they have for their teams on an #ElsevierAspires word art collage.
