Elster will be showcasing its new AS3000V electronic three-phase meter for residential and light commercial customers, and innovative V200/V210 polymer water meter, which can be equipped with a wireless AMI system and recently shipped its millionth unit in the European utility market. The company will also be demonstrating a number of metering innovations that provide integrated gas measurement and regulator solutions for both high and low pressure applications. These include the recently launched EK280 volume converter, themis(plus)®, the world's first industrial and commercial diaphragm gas meter that directly measures and displays the standard volume and sends this data to the utility using its integral GPRS modem.
Frank Hyldmar, Executive Vice President for Electricity, Elster, will chair the event's ICT/Data management conference track, which addresses the theme 'achieving a future proof ICT' and discusses the challenges of defining communication standards and integrating fragmented markets. In addition, Bernd Schumacher, Managing Director at Elster Energy ICT will be speaking on how Meter Data Management (MDM) solutions provide a flexible piece inside what represents a dynamic puzzle.
"Elster is truly leading the promotion of technical interoperability specifications based on open standards," said Hyldmar. "Our commitment to furthering technological advances throughout the Smart Metering and Smart Grid sector has ensured that we continue helping our customers make the vital connections in the Smart Metering and Smart Grid value chain."
Hyldmar is a member of the EU's Smart Grids Task Force (SGTF).
Elster recently cemented its long-standing commitment to interoperability by joining the Interoperable Device Interface Specifications (IDIS) industry association. Its membership of IDIS came not long after the appointment of security expert Michael John, Elster, as Security Coordinator of the PRIME Alliance, which provides a forum for the creation of an open, single specification and standard for narrowband power line for Smart Grid products and services.
"As European countries move closer to wide-scale adoption of Smart Metering technology, the need for a co-ordinated approach among product vendors, solution designers, communication technologists and individual utilities has never been clearer," said Michael John, Security Co-ordinator at PRIME Alliance and Solutions Manager at Elster. "If diverse technologies are to work together seamlessly, then standards for various aspects of the optimal system design are required. In addition, there are Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) available that help address concerns and reassure potential consumers. These should be considered a critical element of any Smart Meter system by design."
Being held 9-11 October 2012 at the RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam, Metering, Billing/CRM Europe 2012 is the preeminent learning and networking hub for the utility and power sector markets. Elster can be found at stand B10.
