The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials is a European Commission approved system for the certification of biomaterials including biofuels. A multi-stakeholder scheme, RSB brings together farmers, companies, non-governmental organizations, experts, governments, and inter-governmental agencies who are concerned with ensuring the sustainability of biomass and biomaterial production and processing. Based on 12 key principles, RSB provides a holistic approach towards sustainability assurance, covering social, environmental, economic and operational aspects in its analysis.
A recent report by the World Wide Fund for Nature ranked RSB as the best performing scheme out of the 13 schemes included in the analysis and states that the top performing schemes are those which actively involve businesses, civil society and policy makers in standard setting and implementation stages. According to the IUCN, the RSB standard has been identified to cover "more sustainability criteria, with greater detail, and with more breadth in terms of level of assurance than any of the other Voluntary sustainability schemes."
David Frohnsdorff, CEO of Ennovor says that "the RSB certification will enable Ennovor to demonstrate strict compliance with EU and international sustainability standards throughout its vertically integrated business - from supply chain controls to providing the highest quality UCOME biodiesel to its customer base."
